Food Rules

Michael Pollan's Food Rules from Marija Jacimovic on Vimeo.

Based on Michael Pollan's talk "Food Rules" given at the RSA, this animation was created in the context of the RSA/Nominet Trust film competition. Using a mixture of stop-motion and compositing, our aim and challenge was to convey the topic in a visually interesting way using a variety of different food products. We made a little table top set up at home and worked on this a little over three weeks.

Beyond Back Yard Sustainability

Four years ago Scott McGuire asked "how much food can I grow in my back yard to feed my family?" In this episode, we learn the results, and that food supply is not an individual project - it takes a community to feed one another.

One Third

Go to this page to see photographs by Klaus Pichler
"According to the UN, one third of the world’s food goes to waste — mostly in industrialized nations — while 925 million people around the world are threatened by starvation. To draw attention to this startling fact, Vienna-based photographer Klaus Pichler has been working for the past nine months on a project titled One Third, which consists of photos of rotting food. The food ranges from simple vegetables to cultural dishes from around the world, and everything is allowed to rot naturally by being stored in large plastic containers in Pichler’s bathroom."

Here are English and German versions of his project statement, where you can see more of his photographs, and read about what inspired him to do this project.
